Quite a few factors can cause changes in the appearance of the arms that leave a patient wanting a cosmetic improvement. Changes in weight, family genetics, and the aging process can all contribute to excess skin and fat collecting on the underside of the arm — sometimes causing almost batwing-like flaps. Diet and exercise may help you lose excess fat deposits, but very little but surgery can eradicate excess and drooping skin.
An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, removes excess fat and skin that lays between the the underarm region and the elbow. The reshaping of this area allows more freedom of movement, more clothing options, and an improved sense of self-confidence. The scar required for the surgery is dependent on the amount of excess skin needing to be removed. Some patients are able to achieve desired results with only a limited incision brachioplasty, which leaves a single scar in the armpit area. For more severe cases, the incision may be required to reach from armpit to elbow. Once Dr. Verbin examines you during your consultation, he will be able to tell you what length of scar your case requires.
